Whether you’re a big computer user or not, chances are that you’ve heard of Twitter.com. However, if you haven’t used Twitter, hopefully this post will help you get started using Twitter.

Getting Started

When you first visit the Twitter.com website, you should see a page that looks similar to a search engine, with a search box, which enables you to search for tweets. For example, if you were to type the word “computer” into the search box, you would see a list of tweets that contain the word “computer”.

If you would like to sign up for Twitter, you can do so by clicking on the button that is to the right of the “Search” button on the Twitter homepage. After you have clicked on the “Sign Up” button, you will be taken to a page where you can choose your username, as well as enter in some account details, such as your name, e-mail address, and password.

The Basics

Once you’ve signed up for Twitter, you should be taken to your Timeline, which is where you will see the tweets, as well as retweets, which are tweets that someone posted that get reposted by another user, of the people that you’re following. You will also be able to update your Twitter status from this page.

From this page, you will also be able to see a list of trending topics, which are things that people are talking about a lot on Twitter. You can also see how many followers you have, how many people that you’re following, as well as how many tweets that you’ve posted.

If you would like follow someone, which would add their tweets to your timeline, providing that they don’t have their account set to “Private”, you can do so by going to their profile and clicking on the “Follow” button.

Updating your Twitter Profile

As mentioned earlier, you can update your Twitter status by sending a tweet from your Twitter timeline. However, there are also other methods of tweeting that you can use.

Another way to update your Twitter status would be via text message. If you would like to be able to update your Twitter status using your mobile phone, you should go to the “Settings” page and enter your phone number. After you have confirmed your mobile phone number, you should be able to tweet by sending a text message to “40404”, which should get added to your Twitter profile.

There are also various applications that you can use to update your Twitter status, which can be seen on the Twitter Goodies page, which also has widgets and buttons that you can use.

ImageShack.us

ImageShack.us allows you to upload your photos, as well as videos without creating an account on their website. However, you are able to create an account if you would like to. ImageShack.us also has plugins that you can use with iPhoto and Picasa. Also, ImageShack.us has an iPhone application that you can use to upload photos, as well as view existing photos.

Flickr.com

Flickr.com allows you to upload pictures, edit them, organize them into collections, sets, or by using tags, as well as show people where your picture was taken on a map. Flickr.com also allows you to create things, such as cards, photo books, framed prints, as well as other things. If you would like to use Flickr, however, you have to create an account. If you have a Yahoo! Account, you can sign in using your Yahoo! ID, as Flickr.com is owned by Yahoo!. Flickr.com also offers the ability to upgrade to a Pro Account, which gives you unlimited storage, unlimited sets and collections, and more.

TinyPic.com

TinyPic.com allows you to upload images to their website, as well as tag and resize them. Once you have uploaded a picture, you will see a variety of different links that you can use to share your picture, use it for websites, as well as other things. TinyPic.com does not require that you create an account in order to use their service, however, you can if you would like to.

If you would like to pay for webhosting, perhaps you should try using a service such as Yahoo! Small Business or GoDaddy, which both offer webhosting packages.

If you would like your website to have a domain name, such as yourname.com, you can purchase one from Yahoo! Domains or GoDaddy.com.
